facade

Hey y’all!

Halloween is such an interesting holiday to me. Especially as an adult. I think about how intentional it is for someone to choose their costume. You only really choose one costume. That says a lot about you.

In high school and college, if I was bored, I would always do those BuzzFeed quizzes. What you choose for breakfast determines what Disney princess you are, Let us guess your age by your favorite TV Shows, etc. etc. I thought it was so interesting how accurate they were. But looking at it now, it’s really not. The choices we make every day shape us into the people we are.

Likewise, what we don’t choose is just as powerful. The things we refuse and say no to are just as important as what we choose for ourselves.

What kind of treatment do you accept? How do you let people talk to you? What’s an acceptable way for people to behave towards you? You get to choose this.

So many people I’ve worked with have used me, stepped all over me, treated me as less. But I didn’t care at the time. I needed to work with their name. I needed their clout for my own clout. I don’t know if you’ve watched that one Drake episode of Atlanta but basically, they go to Drake’s mansion for his birthday and are trying to find him only to get a picture with him to post for Instagram. Not even to actually meet him. But to use him to boost their own name.

This contributes to the facade. Who we choose to hang out with, spend time with. Who we choose to work with and collaborate with. These choices matter. Likewise, who we decide not to work with does too. We accept the love we think we deserve.

I’m done choosing less for myself.

I want to live every single day like I’d repeat it for the rest of my life.

I’m done accepting less.

Onward and upward.

Peace and Love,

Perlizbeth
